Shovel Knight Live: Steel Thy Concert Delayed by LA Fires

Yacht Club Games announced that the Shovel Knight Live: Steel Thy Concert is officially delayed as a result of the fires in Los Angeles, California. It was originally going to be held at 8pm PT on January 19, 2025. The new date for the performance is March 30, 2025.

In a statement, Yacht Club Games announced that this was due not only to the fires, but the fact that people involved with putting on the concert were directly affected by it. It specifically cited crew and musicians. It also noted that it expects the delay would result in a “bigger” and “better” show, as well as one that keeps the safety of performers, crew, and attendees in mind.

The announcement included details about how tickets and refunds for the delayed Shovel Knight Live: Steel Thy Concert performance will be handled. All existing tickets for the January 19, 2025 show will be honored on March 30, 2025. Sites still selling tickets will now be selling remaining ones for the March performance. If someone can not make the new date, they do have a window in which they can request a refund from AXS direct. AXS will also email ticket-holders about the delay.

The new schedule for the performances is as follows:

  • February 22, 2025: The Town Hall performance in New York, New York.
  • March 30, 2025: The Fonda Theatre performance in Los Angeles, California.

Another event set for this weekend was affected by the LA fires. Bandai Namco canceled the Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2025. That was supposed to run January 18-19, 2025.

The first Shovel Knight Live: Steel Thy Concert performance will now be held in New York on February 22, 2025.

He transforms into another unlocked character at the start of each run. Respawn Turn Speed can be altered in options. All objects and opponents will have portraits and enhanced descriptions, to help people better know how to deal with them. You’ll see how strong the U is, so you know what to expect. There will also be multiplayer tips to help you improve you skills.

As for the DLC, three packs are on the way. It also has a “coming soon” date. Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon online multiplayer is coming. (Only local is available now.) It will include a ranking system and matchmaking. The PC version will get mod . The example shown hinted at people creating custom characters. More playable characters, enemies, relics, and bosses were also teased. During that segment, Mona showed up.

Shovel Knight Developer New Game is Mina the Hollower

Yacht Club Games, the developer best known for the Shovel Knight series, announced its next title will be Mina the Hollower. It took to Kickstarter to raise $311,503 to fund the Game Boy Color-style The Legend of Zelda-like action RPG. Within 24 hours, it met its funding goal. The game is expected to appear in December 2023 on consoles and PCs.

Mina is a mouse and inventor. However, after Spark Generators she designed stop working, she’s called to return to Tenebrous Isle to find out what’s going on. In addition to using her whip to attack and burrowing into the ground, she’ll eventually get sidearms that grant additional attack options and trinket equipment that give her extra abilities. For example, one trinket involves a spider creating webs you can use to cross over gaps.

Here’s the first trailer.

As for the Kickstarter, the minimum amount someone could contribute to guarantee a copy of the game is $20. That guarantees a digital copy. Someone must pledge at least $100 to get a physical copy.

Mina the Hollower is expected to come to the Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC in December 2023. Its Kickstarter will end on March 3, 2022.

Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon

Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon ticks all sorts of boxes. It is absolutely a puzzle game. You need to deal with falling “blocks” in a timely fashion. It also feels like an action-RPG. You need to consider your health, your equipment, and the amount of damage you’ll take. Roguelike elements come up too, due to being kicked back to camp when you die and opportunities to unlock relics for future runs. The result is an immensely satisfying game anyone could enjoy.

Things kick off in Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon with Shovel Knight on a new adventure. He finds himself in the Pocket Dungeon after touching a strange cube. After digging his way past enemies and blockades, he s up with others trapped there. To escape, you’ll need to get through multiple areas and face other knights to eventually reach and defeat the Puzzle Dungeon Master.

shovel knight pocket dungeon

Like other puzzle games with falling “blocks,” success comes from eliminating them in Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon. However, different ones are handled in different ways. Enemies start out as stationary foes. They deal damage to your knight when you hit them. Hitting one deals damage to it and all identical ones adjacent to it. The same goes for items like blocks or potions. This can allow you to clear larger areas more swiftly (and rack up more gems.) However, as you proceed, you’ll come across enemies with gimmicks. They might become temporarily invincible, deal more damage, or move. Your goal is to survive long enough for the door to appear. You then grab a key, head out, and move on.

Fortunately, you can get stronger. Sometimes finding a key to a chest will give you a piece of equipment. You might find an entrance to a shop, where you can buy a relic to use for that run. Perhaps you’ll turn up in a room where clearing it of foes gets you a big reward. Maybe you’ll happen upon a shrine that needs three keys to open. This means you would have the luxury of letting more enemies chain up. That means more points and higher scores. It helps you be a bit riskier, which increases your potential rewards.

shovel knight pocket dungeon

Every few areas, you’ll come across a level that will involve a boss fight once you find your way “out.” You’ll know it’s coming. There will be a “map” at the top of the puzzle screen, showing the skull representing it. This will be another knight. These can show up randomly, and on subsequent runs you might face a different boss than before. (Even if you didn’t clear the prior one.) Defeating that special foe adds them to the hub. Unlock Shovel Knight, who is your standard, all-around hero, these extra allies each possess a gimmick. For example, Specter Knight gains health after defeating enemies, but loses health if you hit a potion.

So what happens when you die? If you have enough gems, you could quick restart. If not, well you head back to the hub. (Provided you set an infinite stock of lives or have lives left.) Like many roguelikes, there are antifrustration features there. You can purchase relics in the shop. This means they could show up on future runs. You can talk with Tipp for tips about enemies. Percy has a cannon. If you pay the fee to unlock an area, you can then pay an additional fee to by other levels and fast travel to that level. (Most helpful if you’re playing areas in order. You determine if you do so or if they’re random in the options.) You can bump into other knights you’ve unlocked to play as them. Before you swap, you see exactly what their special skill is. You can also get cosmetic changes from the Style Pile.

vine yacht club games

But what’s important is how well Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon works. Initially, areas like the Plains and Pridemoor Keep are fairly simple. (If those sound familiar, it is because spaces are based on Shovel Knight locations.) The enemies are rather basic, though the Goldarmor will show up there with shields to block you from attacking them from the same direction twice. But the further you go, the more dastardly opponents become. Tadvolts occasionally might shock you when attacked. Fairies get more dangerous if your health is low. Electrodents get electrified and move! They keep you on your toes and make you think about your approach. You can’t haphazardly rush through puzzles. The same goes for bosses. You might not face the same twice in a row. It’s good to go through subsequent runs, rather than fast travel to where you left off.

It also offers some supplemental modes that can be quite fun. There’s a VS mode available. This lets you face a player locally or the U. Here you go through enemies and screens as usual. However, eliminating chains sends blocks with enemies to your opponent. Your goal is to bury them before they do the same to you. All while also managing your health and staying alive. There is also a Daily run. This gives you one shot to perform as well as you can.

Vine Yacht Club Games

Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon is a game that manages to feel both carefree and thoughtful. It is easy to run through each level. You know time is at a . You have an idea of what your characters can do. But at the same time, success comes from planning ahead. Being careful and biding your time can be critical. Given that you can be in and out of an area in minutes, it keeps things from getting stale. But that swiftness makes repeated runs even more inviting as you search for answers and secrets.

Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon will come to the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on December 13, 2021.

Cyber Shadow

These days, you can't swing a stick in the game market without hitting a retro tribute to a classic from the 8-bit era. Luckily, a few manage to stand out not just by evoking the look and feel of classic games, but also by both understanding what makes them work and bringing new things to the table to make them appealing to new audiences. And in the case of Cyber Shadow and its creative debt to Ninja Gaiden, I'm glad I had a chance to try it out.

Cyber Shadow

From the moment your ninja pops out of a stasis pod, missing his powers and tasked with saving his master and the city from an invasion by nefarious cyborg baddies, it's clear that Cyber Shadow aims to recall the days of tough-as-nails action platformers. In fact, if first impressions are everything, Cyber Shadow comes across as almost antagonistic to players unfamiliar with the hostility of those early games. The initial stages of Cyber Shadow are arguably even more arduous than its closest inspiration: Ninja Gaiden. Like Ninja Gaiden, Shadow the ninja can only walk, jump, and swing his sword along one plane (there's no slashing up or down by default). Unlike Ninja Gaiden, Shadow is at first actually less mobile than Ryu Hayabusa, lacking some of the jumping and climbing abilities at the outset.

Thankfully, this initial weakness isn't rooted in some sadistic impulse by the one-person team at Cyber Shadow developer Mechanical Head Studios. Instead, it's thanks to the more modern innovations designed in to make the game feel better to contemporary players. The game incorporates clever progression elements, doling out expansions to Shadow's move set as the stages rack up. You'll soon pick up staple maneuvers like a double-jump and a wall grapple, but after a few chapter bosses, you'll have crazy dash moves and air-slides that allow you to practically fly through a stage like you were doing an extremely violent take on Celeste's mid-air insanity.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7-O4kX69pQ

Cyber Shadow also expands your repertoire with new weapons and offensive techniques. You'll gain upward fire slashes and even a fun bullet-reflecting shield. Practicing with all these new techniques is also a breeze, seeing as the game is progressive enough not to stick to the antiquated "lives" system of yesteryear. Instead, players can run Shadow through one of many through generously placed checkpoint locations to save their progress.

Better still for scrubs like yours truly, one can pay currency earned in-game at these checkpoints to refill health, add temporary beneficial effects, or even deploy special weapons make the going a little smoother. My personal favorite is a shuriken on a chain that orbits Shadow like a helpful and sharp drone buddy. It all holds up remarkably, despite some lapses with regards to checkpoints in the latter half of the game. In those instances, it was somewhat frustrating to go for fairly long stretches without relief, but they thankfully were the exception, rather than the rule.

Cyber Shadow

The visuals and mood of the game also nail the retro feel--or rather, my memories of it. The detailed pixel-art graphics are certainly more advanced than what the original Ninja Gaiden could manage. It's more of an SNES-era than NES, if you get my meaning. But I can't bring myself to nitpick that sort of stuff when it all looks so good. It even breaks up the pace with some cool set-piece events, like a pitched motorcycle level and a level where Shadow pilots a rollicking mecha suit. Like the older games, the narrative isn't much to write home about. Parts of it feel like someone decided to play famous parody show Ninja Slayer straight and without irony, but it does the job and doesn't get in the way.

Cyber Shadow channels the spirit of Ninja Gaiden effectively, but isn't satisfied with mere homage. Instead its innovations serve to make the game palatable to a modern audience while building on the legacy of its inspirations.

Cyber Shadow is immediately available on PC, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.

One of Yacht Club Games' new announcements during its second Yacht Club Presents game presentation was Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon, a new tale with roguelite and puzzle gameplay elements. Like Shovel Knight Dig which is being developed by Nitrome alongside Yacht Club, Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon is being developed by indie developer Vine alongside Yacht Club.

Check out the reveal trailer below:

Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon will feature in another quest for treasure, but he'll have to fight multiple waves of enemies, and bosses both old and new in order to succeed. Players will need to move Shovel Knight across the square-shaped map as enemies continuously spawn, and use both skills and items to clear enemies and prevent yourself from being swarmed. (Note that despite Jake Kaufman's catchy soundtrack, the game doesn't seem to be rhythm-based in the same vein as Crypt of the NecroDancer.)

Treasure chests containing items, potions, and keys will also drop down to help you out, so players must prioritize on the fly, especially when facing off against bosses or against other players in competitive 2P mode. Over 10 characters across the Shovel Knight series are playable, and each character has their own power and playstyle.

Meanwhile, in Story Mode, Shovel Knight will need to work alongside the mysterious Puzzle Knight in order to complete the mazes - but it seems that there's more to Puzzle Knight than meets the eye.

Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon is in development. The game has TBD listed for both release date and platforms, but is all but confirmed for Nintendo Switch, as a demo of the game on Switch will be available at PAX East.

Cyber Shadow release date

Earlier this week, Yacht Club released a new trailer for Cyber Shadow, the Ninja Gaiden-inspired game announced last year, and also revealed that the game's release window is Fall 2020.

The trailer, revealed during the second Yacht Club Presents game presentation, shows off Shadow facing against numerous mechanical monstrosities, and also shows off a few story cutscenes that also harken back to the Ninja Gaiden style. They also announced that the game releases in Fall 2020.

Check out the trailer below:

Cyber Shadow takes place in a world taken over by synthetic creatures. After receiving a plea for help, Shadow heads to the ruins of Mekacity, where the creatures began their conquest, in order to uncover the truth behind everything. Yacht Club announced last year that they are publishing the game on behalf of developer Aarne “MekaSkull” Hunziker (Mechanical Head Studios). The game is focused on precision platforming and flashy actions across stages, and will feature a "classic" mode made for veterans of platforming games, as well as an easier mode that adds in a few modern conveniences. The game's soundtrack is composed by Enrique Martin, and is produced by Jake "virt" Kaufman.

Apart from the story trailer, Yacht Club Games also announced that the Shovel Knight amiibo will be ed in the Nintendo Switch version of the game. That said, they didn't elaborate on what effect scanning the amiibo will have.

Cyber Shadow releases for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC in Fall 2020. It’ll be available for $14.99.

shovel knight king of cards 2

The Shovel Knight additional campaigns have come to a close. The king has come. King of Cards, available as part of the larger Treasure Trove compilation or alone, lets people play as the laughable dork King Knight as he attempts to become King of Cards and become an actual king. It’s a chance to follow someone who’s the butt of jokes (and rightfully so).

A good rule of storytelling is to show and not tell people things. Shovel Knight: King of Cards is great at using information around people to show exactly the kind of person King Knight is. At the start of this campaign, the events of which occur before Shovel Knight, King Knight is a buffoon. But, he’s a harmless sort of egotist who people still like. His mom is always there for him, caring for him even when he insists his rats are great minions and ing him in his quest for greatness by hopping on board his airship. He’s a blustering windbag, but he genuinely is good at the Joustus card game and continually beats the opponents ahead of him. Yet, there’s always that sense of arrogance and pride that, here, comes across as almost likeable.

shovel knight king of cards 2

His actions reflect this. Every level begins with some sort of pratfall. When he’s diving off of the airship, he’s unceremoniously hopping off and (probably) falling flat on his face. If he dies, his crown falls off. He has exaggerated stage exit poses. There’s also the whole ability to pay to cheat in the Joustus minigame. When he interacts with people, the conversations always showcase his total cluelessness when it comes to his actual status and his inflated sense of superiority. It’s especially fun when the people he’s talking to humor or totally ignore his boasts.

The one thing I do wish is that King of Cards offered even more opportunities to play its in-game card game. For a game about a character who wants to be a king and become the best at the Joustus card game, Yacht Club Games could have done more to make it a more essential part of the experience. Especially since part of the story is to bring up how he does have a genuine knack for it. It is possible to completely avoid playing it, which is a shame given how novel it is.

shovel knight king of cards 3

King of Cards’ Joustus is a pleasant game with shades of Skylanders Giants’ Skystones and Final Fantasy VIII’s Triple Triad. You have a table in front of you with a 3x3 grid for cards. Your goal is to have one of your cards under more gems than your opponent before the table’s space is completely filled by cards. Each card can have either no or multiple arrows on them. The arrow indicates if it can push a card up, down, left, or right on the field. While you can’t place a card directly on a gem, you can push one under it. There are also 12 slots on each of the four sides of the table for cards to be pushed onto. But, if there is another card you are attempting to push that has an arrow pushing back, it can’t be used to shove the other. It lends itself well to “puzzle” challenges. Plus, since each deck only contains 16 cards and you always get at least one card after winning a match, it encourages you to experiment.

Shovel Knight: King of Cards is one of those games where you get to root for a character who is a goofy doofus. While he has some of his arrogance, it isn’t to the level that it is in Shovel Knight and the other expansions. So at this point, it’s almost like you feel like, “Sure. I could rally behind him.” His moveset makes you rethink how you approach challenges in stages and use moment to move and attack. There’s also a nifty little card game that can be quite enjoyable, once you get the gist of it. It’s lighthearted and novel, ing an arrogant “king.”

Shovel Knight: King of Cards is available for the Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Switch Nintendo Wii U,, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox One, and PC. It will also come to the PlayStation 3.

The NFC figure, which is the third being made by a third party for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, will help people dig themselves out of trouble in Europe starting December 11. North America will have to wait a month more, as he’ll be released here on January 8.

An explanation for the staggered release dates was offered by Yacht Club Games. The developer wanted to ensure enough Shovel Knight amiibo would be available to satisfy demand. It would have been possible to release him before Christmas, but it would have been a smaller amount than they would have liked. So there was a slight delay to make sure there would be plenty.

The amiibo unlocks additional modes, customization options, and bonuses in both the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U versions of Shovel Knight. In both games, you can level him up to 50, change his appearance, get new relics for additional abilities, and go through more Challenge stages. The Nintendo Wii U version also adds cooperative multiplayer to the formerly single player campaign and coop Challenge stages.

Yacht Club Games confirmed that there won’t be a limited run of Shovel Knight amiibo. The figure will cost $12.99, €14.99, or £10.99, depending on region.

Yacht Club Games’ Shovel Knight amiibo will be the first third party NFC figure in the line. While it has a November 27 release date in Europe, North America has yet to receive any confirmation about the collectible. However, Best Buy has become the first domestic retailer with a listing.

Physical copies of Shovel Knight for the Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Wii U, and PlayStation 4 are now available in-stores.
