For the first time since the game came out in Japan, Taiko no Tatsujin machines will appear in arcades in North America. You’ll be able to play the game from November 2024. [Thanks, PR Times!]

The newest songs available in Japan will be in the machines via online updates. As well, you’ll be able to use a Bandai Namco port (essentially a ID card) to record your play record. In a comment from John Mackenzie, who is a representative for Bandai Namco Amusement America Inc., the company is very excited to bring the game over to North America due to its “great play value.” Haruo Iwayaguchi of the Japanese branch notes that due to its simplicity, Taiko no Tatsujin is very popular in arcades amid players of all ages.

Bandai Namco first released Taiko no Tatsujin in 2001. The arcade machine simulates a taiko drum in which players need to hit with drum sticks depending on the notes. Though the machines never made it to North America, North American s were able to play the game through console or mobile apps like Pop Tap Beat. Countries other than Japan that have the machines in its arcades include China and Australia.

imageWell, Namco Bandai is teasing something for Taiko: Drum Master for sure. Wada-don is featured on a countdown site with a timer set to 12 days (or 13 depending on your time zone).

The Wii got a new Taiko: Drum Master game last November with the subtitle "Definitive Edition." Perhaps, they're going to bring the tapping series to another platform? Or maybe this is for a new arcade game. I think Taiko no Tatsujin 14 is almost two years old now.

This summer, Japan will see a flood of expensive, branded memory sticks released by Kadokawa Shoten and Hori. What’s so special about them? Nothing, really, other than the fact that they’re branded with popular licenses and some of them come with content like PSP themes.

One of these is this Haruhi memory stick on the right from Kadokawa Shoten, which is due out on June 23rd. This will go for 3,980 yen (about $49.00) and will come with this custom PSP theme:

Next up is Steins;Gate memory stick, also from Kadokawa Shoten. Like the Haruhi stick, this will also go for 3,980 yen on June 23rd and will come with a custom theme:

Hori are trying something different with a Taiko no Tatsujin memory stick. Theirs comes with a custom PSP theme and the song “Fantasy of the Wind”. In a twist, it’s actually cheaper at 3,480 yen ($43.00) and is due out on July 14th.

Prefer anime instead? Don’t worry, here’s a A Certain Scientific Railgun stick, also for 3,480 yen. This one’s due out a little later, in August.

Finally, Capcom have their own branded PSP sticks coming, too, and naturally, they’re based on Monster Hunter. Monster Hunter Diary G is releasing on August 25th, and this stick will be released day and date with the game for 3,129 yen ($39.00).

All of these are Mark2 sticks. Incidentally, you can grab a regular Sony ProDuo 4GB Mark2 memory stick at Rakuten for just a little over 2,000 yen (that’s $25.00). Amazon has them going for even lower.

imageNamco Bandai hasn't announced it yet, but two retailers report a new Taiko no Tatsujin game for Wii.

The title Taiko no Tatsujin Wii Everyone's Party Sandaime popped up at HMV and online retailer Rakuten. Rakuten quickly pulled their listing, but it's still available in Google's cache. While HMV lists Taiko no Tatsujin Wii 3rd as a standalone game, Rakuten says there's a hardware bundle too. Usually, Namco Bandai releases a game only copy for Taiko no Tatsujin fans and a drum bundle for newcomers.

According to both listings, Taiko no Tatsujin Everyone's Party Sandaime is scheduled to ship on December 2 in Japan.

imageIn Taiko no Tatsujin: Dororon! The Great Yokai Battle, Wada-don goes ghost hunting around Japan. His quest begins in Iga Village where he can talk to townsfolk. Namco Bandai designed a classic RPG look for this mode and even added random battles.

When Wada-don leaves town monsters can attack him. Menus don’t pop up for fights, though. Taiko no Tatsujin: Dororon! The Great Yokai Battle has drum battles where players hit the touch screen drum to hit monsters like the kappa. Taking a cue from Dragon Quest, textboxes tell players how much damage they did. After each fight, Wada-don gains experience and can level.

So, if you’ve been dreaming of a drumming RPG keep an eye out for Taiko no Tatsujin: Dororon! The Great Yokai Battle. The game comes out in Japan tomorrow.

On June 16, “No Way Back” will be available as free . You can sample the song here. “Light Cavalry - Overture” from classical composer Franz von Suppé is scheduled for release on the same day.

Even more able songs are planned for the four-year-old game, but none were announced at this time.
