During the May 2025 Tudum showcase, Netflix revealed the live-action version of Tony Tony Chopper in One Piece and confirmed his voice actor. He’ll be played by Mikaela Hoover. There’s also a brief trailer showing him off, during which the 2026 launch window for the second season appeared.

The teaser video began with Chopper trying to hide behind a column. Inaki Godoy, as Monkey D. Luffy, mentioned that we can see him and told him to come out. Chopper then stepped out and introduced himself, walking down the steps as he did. He noted that the second season of the live-action adaptation will come out in 2026. After he fell down the stairs, he called for a doctor. However, at that point he brought up that he is a physician. It doesn’t note if any of his other forms will appear.

Here’s the full One Piece live-action video from Netflix showing how Chopper will look in the series.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rT0r90co_EA&ab_channel=Netflix

The character is also now part of a new daily life series called Chopper's. That shows up on social media sites like Instagram and shows him as he goes through daily life and ordinary situations in the modern world.

Many of Mikaela Hoover’s performances prior to her role in One Piece involved ing roles or one-time appearances in ongoing series. For example, she was in one episode of Duster, and she played a Humanimal named Floor in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.

This marks the fifth English voice actor for Tony Tony Chopper in One Piece, with Brina Palencia perhaps being the most recent recognizable one. Palencia portrayed him since 2000.

The first season of the One Piece live-action adaptation is on Netflix. The anime is streaming on services like Crunchyroll and Netflix. Viz Media handles the manga outside Japan.

Netflix Confirms Season 2 of Devil May Cry Anime 312h37 https://siliconera.cinevost.com/netflix-confirms-season-2-of-devil-may-cry-anime/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=netflix-confirms-season-2-of-devil-may-cry-anime https://siliconera.cinevost.com/netflix-confirms-season-2-of-devil-may-cry-anime/#respond <![CDATA[Jenni Lada]]> Thu, 10 Apr 2025 16:00:00 +0000 <![CDATA[Anime]]> <![CDATA[News]]> <![CDATA[Devil May Cry]]> <![CDATA[Europe]]> <![CDATA[Japan]]> <![CDATA[Netflix]]> <![CDATA[North America]]> https://siliconera.cinevost.com/?p=1089557 <![CDATA[

Netflix Confirms Season 2 of Devil May Cry Anime

Netflix announced that there will be a season 2 of the new Devil May Cry anime adaptation. The first one debuted on the streaming service on April 3, 2025. However, as it is still so new and such a fresh announcement, we don’t know more about what’s to come.

The first season of the show followed Dante as he dealt with a terrorist called The White Rabbit, while also dealing with his own background. The Rabbit, and many other people as a result, all want the half of an amulet his mother gave him. Along the way, he also ends up meeting and dealing with other familiar characters from the games, such as Lady. There are eight episodes total in that season, and all of them showed up at launch on Netflix.

To go along with the Devil May Cry season 2 reveal, Netflix did share a new teaser image for the anime. You can see that below.

It’s been a few years since we’ve seen a new, mainline Devil May Cry game. The last one was Devil May Cry V, which started as a PS4, Xbox One, and PC title. However, a special edition released in 2020 resulted in it coming to the PS5 and Xbox Series X too.

However, there is a new game tied to the series. In 2024, the Devil May Cry: Peak of Combat mobile game appeared. That’s the NebulaJoy game with multiple characters in the game and similar action-based gameplay.

The first season of the Devil May Cry anime is available on Netflix now, and season 2 is in development.

New Devil May Cry Evanescence Anime Song Lyric Video Debuts

Netflix’s latest trailer for the Devil May Cry anime also functions as a lyric music video for the new Evanescence song “Afterlive.” The track is going to be a part of the soundtrack for the show when it begins streaming on the service on April 3, 2025.

Unlike most lyric music videos, the lyrics from the new Evanescence song are incorporated into the scenes from the Devil May Cry anime. So once Amy Lee’s vocals kick in, they will also appear in the background or foreground of the segments we see. So when the lyrics kick in at the 12 second mark, we see the words “hide” appear behind Dante, then “before the floodgates open” on guns of people heading out to hunt him down. This continues throughout the trailer, with the lyrics overlaid or hidden in the background of footage.

Here’s the full official lyric video for the new Evanescence song “Afterlife” on YouTube.

As a reminder, while this adaptation is based on the game series, it isn’t directly based on any particular entry. Instead, it’s set between the first two mainline games. The studio behind it is Mir, which also worked on the anime series The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep and The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf for Netflix. Its other game adaptation is Dota: Dragon's Blood.

The Devil May Cry anime will begin streaming on Netflix on April 3, 2025. Devil May Cry 5 is available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC, and Devil May Cry: Peak of Combat is available on mobile devices.

Carmen Sandiego

Carmen Sandiego is one of the world’s most beloved edutainment game series. Somehow, this spy game that secretly tries to teach kids about geography is still going. After the 2019 animated series from Netflix, here is an adaptation of that series taking it back to its video game roots.

On the surface, the new Carmen Sandiego might not have much to do with the original Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego. The trailers all show cool action sequences and puzzle-solving, painting a picture of a game where our titular heroine undergoes cool heists and saves the day. Do not believe the lies. This is, despite the flashy Netflix presentation, the same Carmen Sandiego kids in the 90s played to learn the capital of Uganda. Mostly.

If you’re unaware how the Carmen Sandiego game series works, you are a detective with the ACME agency, on the hunt for master thieves across the world. An artifact has been stolen, and you must track who stole it and where in the world they are. In each location, you find clues. These come in two forms – clues to where the suspect went, and clues to who they are. The latter are usually things like eye color or favorite food, both of which can be cross-referenced with the agency’s files to narrow down the suspect. The meat of this is in the location clues though, which mostly consist of real-world facts about the possible destinations.

Carmen herself was one of the master thieves you were trying to track down in the original game. However, this game is based on the Netflix series, where she is now Sly Cooper for some reason. Still a master thief, just one that goes after other criminals. So instead of trying to find her, you play as her as she hunts down the other suspects.

This is where all the fancy stuff comes in. In the original game, you’d click on a location within each city you travel to and get a clue. Now you have to work for that clue, usually via a point-and-click segment where you speak to people and investigate suspicious parts of the environment. Sometimes this will be replaced with a minigame, such as a QTE, a safe-cracking minigame, a gliding game or something similar. Either way, the clue is your reward for completing these segments successfully.

The point-and-click segments are decent. They’re a little simplistic, but they do add a nice extra layer of interactivity. The minigames, however, are a mixed bag. Any of the QTE style minigames are generally tedious and a reminder of why we should be grateful games stopped relying on them years ago. The safe cracking is fine but nothing special. The hang-gliding minigame should be great but is marred with control issues. On top of these problems, all the minigames come with the stink of mobile game ranking systems. A gaudy star meter hovers nearby in almost all of them, assessing your performance. Gameloft should have just stuck to making this a straightforward adventure game, but I guess these minigames look more exciting in a trailer.

Screenshot by Siliconera

Despite the issues with the minigames, the actual mystery solving of Carmen Sandiego starts out interesting. The geographic clues proved to be genuinely challenging to figure out. The suspect database was fun to work with. The time limit inherent to every case also applies a decent level of pressure to figure out the answers quickly.

However, it doesn’t take long before you’ve seen everything Carmen Sandiego has to offer. The number of cities you can travel to is pathetically small, consisting of maybe two cities per continent. A similar problem happens with the clues themselves, which frequently default to “the airport code contains this letter” above any other option. These are the least interesting, as I can figure out a suspect went to Tokyo when they visit a ryokan, but I’m never ing either of the city’s major airport codes. What’s worse, I eventually started getting that specific clue two times per city, and it sucked all fun out of the mystery solving.

Progressing through the story of Carmen Sandiego exacerbates this. I said you get assessed on a 5-star system on every minigame like it’s a generic mobile game? This style of design seeps into progression too, where unlocking new stages is based on your current level, but simply playing the game normally never awards enough XP. Instead, you constantly have play stripped down versions of the main stages that remove the minigames and presentation. Usually multiple times because these also give a tiny amount of XP compared to what you need to level up. It’s so tedious that I half expected a store page to pop up saying I could skip the grind by purchasing some special XP packs. This didn’t happen in my review build but don’t be surprised if it sneaks into the final release since it feels cynically designed for it.

The result of all this repetition is a miserable experience buried under some decent presentation. At first I was willing to accept a lot of this simplicity as the game being intended for younger audiences. However, a cursory glance at the original Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? exposes further problems with the new game. The original game saw you drowning in cities across all continents, and the level of detail the clues went into required a lot more research and learning than the new game’s obsession with ing three letters used by baggage handlers. The original game felt like a suitable challenge for a child but also capable of feeding them a ton of knowledge.

Screenshot by Siliconera

Carmen Sandiego does improve a lot from the original design, ittedly. Clues are retained in an easy-to-reference notebook. The suspect database is streamlined and easy to work with. The presentation is excellent, with decent visuals and a superb jazzy soundtrack that enhances the detective vibes. However, where it really matters, this new game is an inferior experience. The limited scope of locations and clues coupled with tedious progression turn the game into a slog, and it doesn’t even have the educational value for young audiences that the original does.

Ultimately, I came away from this new Carmen Sandiego game feeling frustrated. The strong basic mechanics and presentation are let down with baffling progression and repetition. You'd be better off playing the original in a browser for free. At least you might learn something there.

The new Carmen Sandiego game is out now for Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and mobile devices via Netflix.

The new Carmen Sandiego game is out now for Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and mobile devices via Netflix.

season 1 sakamoto days

Netflix truly hit the goldmine this particular season of anime, gaining what is potentially the strongest anime of the entire Winter 2025 season. I have checked out quite a lot of new anime this season and while this Winter season is stronger than most of the seasons in 2024, there is one that stands tall above the rest. Sakamoto Days is the funniest and most heartwarming Winter 2025 anime thus far.

For those who haven’t checked it out yet, Sakamoto Days follows the titular Sakamoto. A former hitman, Sakamoto left the underworld life behind him in exchange for raising a family and running his very own convenience store. Of course, his old life comes back to haunt him, as a whole swathe of the underworld now wish to eliminate him. The series follows Sakamoto and the other characters around him as he tries to protect his newfound life.

Sakamoto himself is one of the more fascinating protagonists. He says very little in the series, including a mere two lines or so in total throughout the first episode. His quieter personality lends well to this idea of a powerful but lovable teddy bear-like father vibe that he gives off. There is something endearing about how much he shows his love for his new life and family without needing to say a word.

It helps that the rest of the cast is quite talkative. Shin, in particular, is a younger former hitman that comes after Sakamoto to finish him off in the first episode. In classic anime fashion, it turns out Shin isn’t that bad of a guy and he ends up ing Sakamoto in the end. Shin is life of the party, having a surprising amount of the story focus on him.

I appreciate how Sakamoto Days allows its ing cast to thrive, like Shin. The same goes for other characters that appear later, which I won’t spoil here. They each come to feel like a true misshapen family in a sense. They are characters worth rooting for. Shin and Sakamoto’s wife Aoi will likely go down as some of my favorite anime characters this year.

While the story premise is quite serious in Sakamoto Days, don’t let this fool you. It is actually the funniest anime series of the Winter 2025 season. There are many gags and goofy moments throughout. It helps that there are ridiculous characters like Shin. But even Sakamoto himself has hilarious scenes like catching a bullet with chopsticks.

Sakamoto Days Winter 2025 anime season

This humorous aspect of the series pairs well with the more action-heavy sequences. After all, Sakamoto has to fight off legions of criminals. The animation style is perhaps my least favorite part of this series. It looks a bit too light on the borders and shadings, but this is part of the charm. In fact, TMS Entertainment captures the original manga style quite well, which looks like this.

Thankfully, the lighter animation style helps the action look great. The fluid nature of the less detailed animation works well with the intense fights throughout Sakamoto’s convenience store, abandoned warehouses, and more. There is generally fantastic action here, evoking vibes of how Spy x Family handles its mix of action and comedy.

Even only with a few episodes available thus far, Sakamoto Days should end up as one of the best anime series of 2025. It is by far the funniest series of the Winter 2025 season, with its ridiculous set of characters and scenes. But it balances this so well with action-packed moments and heartwarming family themes. If there is one anime series that is a must-watch this season, it's Sakamoto Days.

Sakamoto Days is streaming right now on Netflix.

A release date for the Devil May Cry anime has been shared. The official X of The Game Awards broke the announcement, revealing that consumers will be able to watch this new anime adaption on April 3, 2025 through Netflix.

https://twitter.com/thegameawards/status/1884971502044626952

While an April 2025 release date was suggested through previous announcements made by Netflix. A later update confirmed that Johnny Yong Bosch would appear as Dante in this new adaptation. Bosch has provided the voice for Nero since the character was introduced in Devil May Cry 4, and reprised his role for Devil May Cry V. On X he elaborated that the change in voice actors for Dante would make sense. It looks like Devil May Cry fans will just have to wait and see.

Whether or not the Devil May Cry anime will take into the various stage plays and novels the series has received has yet to be seen. Regardless, Devil May Cry V has remained on Capcom's Platinum Titles list. While it hasn't eclipsed series like Monster Hunter or Resident Evil, it's shown that there's a considerable amount of interest in what was otherwise seen as a fairly niche series.

Lego One Piece

One Piece Lego is on its way, as confirmed by both the official website and official One Piece social media . No further details have been revealed yet beyond a 2025 release window, however.

Lego revealed the announcement with a teaser trailer on the company’s website. It features a straw hat being grabbed by a stretchy Lego hand. As the hat is taken out of shot the One Piece theme kicks in and the words “coming soon” appear on screen. The collaboration will tie in with the Netflix live-action adaptation specifically. A press release from Netflix has confirmed multiple playsets are in production, although they have yet to announce any further details.

To celebrate, the manga’s original creator, Eiichiro Oda, shared a piece of artwork on social media. In the artwork he explains his personal love for Lego and his excitement at seeing One Piece getting its own playsets. He claimed that he’d been asking for this collaboration for 25 years. Of course, he has promised to build and display the sets when they are eventually released.

As well the Lego collaboration, Netflix has also been steadily revealing the cast for the second season of One Piece. This includes Sophia Anne Caruso as Miss Goldenweek and Rico Sanchez as Dragon. A release date for the second season has yet to be announced.

No release date has been announced for the One Piece Lego sets. Season 2 of the One Piece live-action adaptation is currently in production.

3 More One Piece Live-Action ing Actors Shared

It seems we could be building up to more major One Piece live-action season 2 announcements, as Netflix shared another three ing actors for the show. This time, the latest social media post shared the identities of Dragon, Igaram, and Ipponmatsu.

In this batch of new One Piece live-action ing actors for season 2, Dragon is the most notable. Spoilers aside, he ends up being a major influence on characters like Luffy and Sabo in the story. He’s played by Rigo Sanchez, who most recently played Lightner in the show Outer Banks

The other two characters are notable in their own ways. Igaram is also known as Mr. 8 and is associated with Miss Wednesday. He’s played by Yonda Thomas, whose last role was the show Red Ink. Finally, the store owner Ipponmatsu will be played by James Hiroyuki Liao. He’s appeared in Blue Bloods and Presumed Innocent most recently.

Here are Netflix’s official images that show the One Piece ing actors alongside the art of the characters they’ll play.

This is the second One Piece live-action ing actor reveal this week. On January 14, 2025, Netflix revealed the identities of Miss Goldenweek, Chess, and K.M. Of the three, Baroque Works antagonist Miss Goldenweek is the most notable, and she’s played by Sophia Anne Caruso.

We still don’t know who plays one of the more notable additions in the second season of this adaptation. Tony Tony Chopper will debut in the new episodes. We’ve seen teases of the character from the back, but no official footage of him or details about his voice actor.

There’s no launch date for season 2 of the One Piece live-action adaptation yet, but the full first season is live on Netflix now. You can find the anime on Crunchyroll and Netflix, and Viz Media handles the manga outside of Japan.

Netflix Shared More One Piece Live-Action Season 2 Actors

Netflix took to social media to share three more of the One Piece season 2 live-action actors. One is one of the more major Baroque Works characters, Miss Goldenweek. The other two are Chess and K.M.

Miss Goldenweek is played by Sophia Anne Caruso. She is best known for musicals like The Sound of Music Live and the Beetlejuice musical. Anton David Jeftha is K.M. He previously appeared in both Dominion and Homeland. As for Chess, Mark Penwill plays him. One of his most recent parts was in Catch Me a Killer.

Here's the announcement, which shows pictures of the characters alongside the actors who will play them in season 2 of the live-action adaptation of One Piece.

https://twitter.com/onepiecenetflix/status/1879159033740869851

Many of the latest One Piece season 2 live-action actor announcements involved both major and ing cast . Things started with a number of Baroque Works villains the Straw Hat Pirates will face. After that, we learned about more major characters. For example, Netflix started off by sharing that Callum Kerr is Smoker. We know Charithra Chandran will be Miss Wednesday, while Sendhil Ramamurthy is Nefertari Cobra. Some of the last ones revealed were Miss All-Sunday and Mr 0. They’ll be played by Lera Abova and Joe Manganiello

However, we don’t know who the voice actor for Tony Tony Chopper will be yet. The character’s design hasn’t even been fully revealed yet. Netflix only teased it so far. However, Katey Sagal will be Dr Kureha

There’s no launch date for season 2 of the One Piece live-action adaptation yet, but the full first season is live on Netflix now. You can find the anime on Crunchyroll and Netflix, and Viz Media handles the manga outside of Japan.

One Piece Creator Meets Live Action Luffy

Netflix shared a video of Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, speaking with and interviewing the live-action Luffy actor Inaki Godoy. The video also offered some behind the scenes information on the second season, which is currently in production. The first season is on the service now.

The discussion is led by Godoy, the actor who played Monkey D. Luffy in the live-action version of One Piece since the first season. He conducts the interview entirely in Japanese, which he had been learning for almost a year, specifically so he could talk to the One Piece creator more directly. The discussion happened on the set of the show in South Africa, after Oda had been given a tour of pieces created for the second season. He talked about how impressed he was with the crew’s work on the sets, props and other elements.

During the discussion, Inaki Godoy asked One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda about the Grand Line, which is a major setting for season two. The actor asked why it was so challenging and joked that he was tired from filming. Oda explained that it was simply because the audience needs to be challenged, and the difficulty of the Grand Line seas were an effective way to add that challenge. They also discussed Oda’s thought process when it came to creating Luffy as a character, which he explained as wanting someone with the carefree nature of a child, free from adult responsibilities that people face in the real world. Oda also complimented Godoy on his live-action depicition of Luffy.
