Capcom announced that it will hold a new Online Kuji lottery featuring new crossover merchandise throughout Spring 2025. There are no exact dates just yet. The lineup will primarily feature the Japanese Vtuber Suou Patra wearing fashion inspired by the classic Mega Man series.

In this lineup, Suou Patra will get to wear outfits inspired by not only Roll but also Mega Man, who is better known in Japan as Rockman. Capcom also helped design an original escape pod for Patra, which is based on Dr. Wily's Capsules.

A single ticket for this lottery will cost 880 yen, but those who purchase ten tickets at once will only have to pay nine tickets worth 7,920 yen (~$52.35). Capcom also offers a flat domestic shipping rate of 660 yen for up to 20 prizes simultaneously.

The list of prizes available in the lottery is as follows:

  • S Prize: Sitting chibi character plush
  • A Prize: XL-sized T-shirt (2 designs)
  • B Prize: Desk mat (2 designs)

The Cap Kuji Online lottery featuring crossover merchandise between Mega Man and the Vtuber Suou Patra will run from March 7, 2025, until April 11, 2025. Capcom will deliver the prizes domestically in Japan between mid and late July 2025.

Mega Man Mega Buster Cushion Heads to Japanese Arcades

Sega and Capcom announced via Sega Plaza that there will be Mega Man Mega Buster cushions in Japanese arcades. It will begin showing up as a prize on February 14, 2025. As you can guess, it can be worn on someone’s arm or used as a pillow.

The Mega Buster cushion is designed to resemble the classic gun weapon on Mega Man’s arm. It is made of blue fabric, with the yellow gauge on the side and red light in the barrel. It is about a foot long, six inches wide, and six inches tall. It is a unisex item designed to fit both children and adults. It can be worn, as shown in the one photo on Sega Plaza, or just used as a decorative pillow.

Here’s the full gallery of Sega’s photos of the prize:

This is the second recent prize based on the character to appear in arcades. Sega and Capcom also announced a medium-sized plush of Mega Man himself. That started showing up in Japanese arcades in January 2025.

While there’s no new game on the horizon, Udon Entertainment did release some of the manga spin-offs worldwide. The first volumes of the Little Mega Man gag manga and Mr. Mega Man series are now available.

The Mega Man Mega Buster cushion will appear in Japanese arcades on February 14, 2025.

Mega Man 11 Kotobukiya Model Kits

Kotobukiya announced a revised release date for the two new Mega Man 11 model kits. The kits will now be releasing sometime in June 2025. They are planned to appear in every region, though we will likely see them launch first in Japan.

The Scramble Thunder and Pile Drive Mega Man model kits were originally available for pre-order on October 10, 2024. However, pre-orders were temporarily halted on November 14, 2024. No reason was provided for the suspension of orders at the time. Originally, Mega Man Scramble Thunder was set for an April 2025 release and Mega Man Pile Driver was set for a May 2025 release. They will both now be released in June 2025. Pre-orders have also resumed. It’s unclear if existing pre-orders will be maintained.

The model kits are based on the Scramble Thunder and Pile Drive variations of Mega Man from the eleventh game in the mainline series. These weapons were obtained from Fuse Man and Impact Man respectively. The Scramble Thunder variation is a green and black color with a helmet decorated with electrical coils. The Pile Drive variation is an orange and black construction site aesthetic. Both model kits are available to pre-order from Kotobukiya for ¥8,580 each. The completed figures are around 5 inches tall.

The Pile Drive and Scramble Thunder Mega Man kits are the latest in a long line of Mega Man kits from Kotobukiya. These range from standard versions of Mega Man in his standard Mega Buster form to a large range based on the Mega Man X subseries.

The Mega Man 11 Kotobukiya Pile Drive and Scramble Thunder model kits are available for pre-order now. They will release sometime in June 2025.

Mr Mega Man Manga Gets Introspective

We don’t really get to see Mega Man ever enjoying downtime in his games. Some spin-off series aside, he’s constantly at work, dealing with robot masters and saving the world from Dr. Wily. It’s a seemingly endless cycle. Except Mr Mega Man, a new manga from Yushi Kawata and Yukito and picked up for an English release by Udon Entertainment, suggests there is a “what’s next” for not only Rock, but his allies and opponents. It’s an introspective sort of series, for the most part, and shows what his “new” adventures might be like once he doesn’t need to constantly fight for everyone’s sake.

Editor’s Note: There will be spoilers for the first volume of the Mr Mega Man manga below. 192f3r

Much like the Mega Man games, the Mr Mega Man manga starts with an introduction saying the year is 20XX and setting the stage. Because Dr. Light retired, Dr. Wily also abandoned his schemes. As the world is peaceful, the robots formerly subject to their whims are also now productive, accepted of society. Rock and Roll run a dental practice and get to be… happy and think about their lives. It’s quite a change, and a welcome one!

To start, Mr Mega Man jumps right in by explaining what life is like in this new future for Rock and Roll. Because of the nature of their existence, the two of them both look human. He’s was updated so often (over the course of the games) that it’s easy for him to continue to be upgraded and repaired. That isn’t the case for other robots. When he brings up this concern to Dr. Light and suggest that the Labor Standards Act should apply to robots as well as humans, his creator brushes it off. It’s like, “Ha ha, robots are created with a purpose and to serve humans, so why should you worry about that?”

Mr Mega Man ends up getting really philosophical, and I appreciate that. Like when Rock visits Cut Man, the former enemy considers the nature of his existence and his appearance. He brings up how now that he ended up “forced” into being a barber, rather than a lumberjack as intended, he started considering how impractical his design was. He has to use scissors to cut hair. When he was logging, he tended to use chainsaws. Even as a woodcutter, it’d have been better to use plasma or electric scroll saws. Which got me thinking that yeah, he’s right, his design doesn’t make any sense from a practical one. And while Dr. Light insisted people make robots for certain causes, clearly this one didn’t work out.

Later conversations between Rock and Roll, and later Rock and Guts Man, explain how the new Mr Mega Man robots differ. Yes, they’re more modern and efficient. However, in the years since Dr. Light and Dr. Wily’s past experiments and developments, cognitive circuits were removed. They’re not a function anymore. Rock and Roll are lucky, as their original design and purpose mean they are still relatively timeless and applicable, but older ones not only have issues being fixed. There are rules against moving to modern bodies.

I’m not going to go any further and possibly spoil more of the volume for you. But I love how Mr Mega Man tackles issues. Rock and Roll are constantly concerned about not only their existence, but that of the people they knew and fought against. We see how humans relate to these older models, the restrictions they face, and how even someone who is repairing and helping them like Dr. Light can be dismissive. It’s absolutely fascinating, and I’m so glad Udon Entertainment picked it up.

Volume 1 of the Mr Mega Man manga is available now, as is volume 1 of Little Mega Man.

Little Mega Man Manga Stars an Especially Earnest Mega Man

There are quite a few gag manga series in Japan. One’s based on Elden Ring. Another offers a different take on Animal Crossing adventures. Udon Entertainment picked up the Little Mega Man manga series that offers a more comedic look at the lives of Mega Man, Roll, Rush, and Doctor Light, and it is the wholehearted intensity and commitment of each character that makes the first volume so pleasant.

Editor’s Note: There will be spoilers for the first volume of the Little Mega Man manga below. 2a5v30

Basically, this Mega Man manga is a collection of short episodes as Mega Man, Dr. Light, and Roll deal with situations. Dr. Wily is often at fault. Sometimes, Protoman might whistle in for a cameo. But it’s a collection of short situations during which everyone’s innate natures are played up for laughs because they’re so silly.

While all of the characters are funny in their own way in this Mega Man manga, all of them are completely committed to their own mindsets and innate tendencies. By taking that to the extreme, it becomes more enjoyable. We always know Mega Man is a well-intentioned hero out to save the day. So here, that is taken to extremes. The manga begins with Wily causing trouble again because he promised Mega Man he’d stop. Since Mega Man is the epitome of innocence here, he believed him. When working alongside Rush 3.0, he refuses to put his companion in danger. He also wholeheartedly goes along with any of Dr. Light’s schemes, even when questionable.

Dr. Light is known to be a genius throughout the series, and one who is working for the greater good. In the case of the Little Mega Man manga, this means he’s more of an eccentric genius with ideas that might not be quite so brilliant. You know, like new variants of Rush to fill in while he works on the standard model. Except one is too literal and the other capitalizes on currently popular animals. Making Rush too powerful (and dangerous) for a mission against Wave Man. That’s all before getting to his newest robot designed to aid humanity: Comfy Chair Man.

Meanwhile, we have Roll acting as the voice of reason. Traditionally, she’s always appeared as a helpful ing figure in Mega Man. In this Mega Man manga, she’s the person who gets it. Because others end up playing off her responses, logic, and actually intelligent assessments of situations, it makes her more funny too. She even gets some sarcastic lines and digs in, if you take it like that! She gets a lot more time at the forefront or alongside Mega Man, and I loved that.

Little Mega Man is designed to be silly fun, but not an over-the-top, entirely ridiculous manga. We can see the basis for all of the characters’ exaggerate traits. However, they aren’t too amplified or relying on crude behavior. The situations are, at their core, relatable ones we might see come up in a canon Mega Man game or series. Just the responses make them amusing. It’s just a fun read.

The first volume of the Little Mega Man manga is available now, and Udon will release volume 2 in June 2025.

evercade alpha review mega man

Blaze Entertainment has always positioned the Evercade as a sort of ecosystem, home to lots of hardware variations that could all play the same cartridges. And it’s continued to revise and update the handheld and TV-based options! But… perhaps there are more sorts of things? It feels like it was this line of thinking that led to the Evercade Alpha.

The Evercade Alpha is a tabletop arcade machine, designed to evoke its larger brethren and tailored primarily for solo play. It’s honestly a bit larger than we expected, occupying a space about halfway between the Arcade1up machines of the world and micro-cabinets like the Taito Egret II Mini. It’s just over 16 inches tall with a 12-by-10 base, and the screen clocks in at an eight-inch diagonal. The result is functional but not quite so evocative, a comfortable experience for one with multiplayer treated as the ancillary experience it should be for a screen this small.

As long-time fans of the Neo Geo MVS, an arcade cabinet with two cartridge slots does give us a bit of enjoyment just as a concept! The power button is decorated to look like a coin return, which is a nice touch. There are other nice accents, like a light-up swappable marquee and a headphone jack. A note about the headphone jack, though: if you think you’re using it to play quietly but you’re still using the arcade controls, you might still be disturbing those nearby! Those things are clacky, as they probably should be.

Speaking of those controls, Sanwa buttons are available on the deluxe model, but the standard model we're reviewing has a totally serviceable set. Can we tell the difference? Yeah, occasionally. But any arcade game worth its salt designed around the controls wearing out, so these seem fine enough to us! Also: no one should be trying to use an Alpha at Evo.

The Alpha is available in two models, both centered around built-in Capcom games. The version we’ve reviewed is the Mega Man Edition, which showcases that franchise’s two arcade releases. Mega Man: The Power Battle and Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters turn the console action platformer into a boss rush, with selectable paths through them built around bosses from particular games. You can fight as Mega Man, Proto Man and Bass, and if you plug in a controller, you can play co-op too. (The sequel also adds Duo. Are there Duo fans out there?)

Also included are Final Fight, Carrier Air Wing, Knights of the Round and Strider. This selection of games offers a variety of genres, which is nice! It makes it feel more like a classic arcade experience, wandering around and playing the different games you find. The other model, Street Fighter Edition, includes Street Fighter II’ Champion Edition, Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, and the three Street Fighter Alpha games. That’s obviously great for fans of Street Fighter, though it leans pretty heavily on Puzzle Fighter (or your Evercade library) to provide some variety.

The Evercade compatibility means the Alpha can play a whole host of other games too, and this might be especially appealing for the company’s purple-box line of arcade titles. With the horizontal display and button configuration, it feels most at home with ‘90s releases! Our top recommendations: In the Hunt from the Irem 1 cart and Snow Bros. 2 from Toaplan 4. It’s also a good display for 16-bit games with more of an arcade sensibility, like the Renovation and Sunsoft carts. In general, that era of saturated pixel art just works best. (Stay tuned for more in-depth coverage of the latest Evercade cartridges soon!)

Still, you can play any Evercade cartridges on this thing! And to do so in multiplayer, you just plug in a controller. Blaze sells its own, largely designed for the Evercade VS, but scrappy community have found that many other controllers will work, too. There’s even for two three-player arcade games by using both controller ports: Knights of the Round and the Technos Arcade 1 cartridge inclusion The Combatribes. We can confirm that they work! We cannot, however, confirm that three people standing around an 8-inch screen are going to have the best time.

Before checking it out for ourselves, we’ll it: we thought the Evercade Alpha would be more like the category of arcade-looking desk toys than a legitimate way to play games. After spending time with it, though, we think it’s just barely big enough to enjoy as a solo experience, and the Evercade library access patches up the biggest weakness of home arcades that leads to them quickly collecting dust. (But yes, it’s also for looking cool.)

The Evercade Alpha releases November 28, 2024 for $249.99, and a pre-order discount is available until that date.

evercade alpha review mega man

Nintendo Switch Online Gets 5 Mega Man Game Boy Games

Nintendo Switch Online subscribers can now play five Mega Man Game Boy Games on their consoles. Mega Man: Dr. Wily’s Revenge, Mega Man II, Mega Man III, Mega Man IV, and Mega Man V can now be access in the Game Boy app.

As a reminder, while these have the same names as early Mega Man games and many installments feature the same enemies, they are actually original titles and part of the Mega Man World storyline. The series kicked off with Mega Man: Dr. Wily’s Revenge. In it, Dr. Wily returns, bringing back Bubble Man, Cut Man, Fire Man, Flash Man, Elec Man, Heat Man, Ice Man, and Quick Man, as well as the new robot Enker. Entries II-IV follow that pattern of returning robots.

However, the final entry Mega Man V changes things up. In it, Mega Man faces the original Stardroids Mercury, Venus, Terra, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto, as well as some other Mega Man World opponents.

Getting into Kotobukiya Mega Man Model Kits

For years now, Kotobukiya has been releasing Mega Man model kits based on mainline installments and even entries in the Battle Network series. These tend to focus on Mega Man himself, though occasionally other characters like Roll appear. While they are expensive and can be rare, they’re honestly relatively easy builds for people who are new to model kits and love the series.

What do I need to build a Mega Man model kit? 3f6p2b

The thing about Kotobukiya kits is that most of them don’t require paint or glue. Even if they are elaborate ones, like the Megami Device or Sousai Shojo Teien ones, they tend to snap together easily, come with accessories, and have waterslide decals for extra embellishments.

That said, I recommend getting a model tools kit with nippers, tweezers, and a file. A lot of the sprues will have exceptionally tiny parts, and the nippers will help you get pieces off cleanly. A good pair could even eliminate the need for filing down parts. Also, the tweezers will be essential for waterslide decals. The one I use is a BXQINLENX kit I bought back in 2019 and still use to this day. It’s usually $7.99 to $13.99 on Amazon.

What kinds of Mega Man model kits are easily available and accessible? f4l6i

Kotobukiya has made a ton of Mega Man model kits, but due to things like their age and availability, they can sell out swiftly. Also, it might feel like there’s an overwhelming number of Mega Man X-series ones. But there is a constant stream of new ones coming up, so don’t be discouraged if the entry or character you want isn’t immediately available. For example, Axl, Bass, and Sigma ones are among many in the works!

A lot of Mega Man X ones are easily available on sites like Amazon now. Note that the armor for these models are often interchangeable. Their effect parts can be swapped. They will also all be articulated and may have extra face parts. Here is an example of some kits you can find:

  • Mega Man X - $129.99
  • Mega Man X Falcon Armor - $69.99
  • Mega Man X: Force Armor - $149.99
  • Mega Man X: Force Armor Rising Fire Version - $99.99
  • Mega Man X Full Armor - $89.99
  • Mega Man X: Max Armor Hyper Chip Version - $65.21
  • Mega Man X: Second Armor - $78.99
  • Mega Man X4: X Force Armor - $111

And here’s how those look:

There are also some general model kits based on other Mega Man games and characters available. So you could consider these options:

  • Mega Man 11 Version - $98.90
  • Mega Man: Battle Network Roll.EXE - $78.80

And here is how those two look:

Basically, there are a lot of options! Get started with a kit with a price you're comfortable paying or that is of a character you like a lot. From there, take your time and enjoy yourself! There's no rush, and since the plastic doesn't require painting, it will look great even if you build it and immediately display it.

Mega Man Was Originally a Famicom Disk System Game

Mega Man Game Planner Akira Kitamura shared on social media some information about the development of the game, and said that the game was originally planned as a Famicom Disk System title.

Kitamura said that, since Mega Man was the only Capcom title at the time that was progressing according to schedule, its format was changed form a disk game to ROM cartridge, in anticipation of end-of-year sales. This is in reference to the original Mega Man’s release date of December 17, 1987.

The idea to change Mega Man from a Famicom Disk System to a regular ROM cartridge was most likely made to capitalize on the original Famicom (or NES outside on Japan) having a bigger player base than the Japan-exclusive peripheral device. Unlik the Famicom or NES, the Famicom Disk System device allowed to insert floppy disk games into the Famicom system.

The game developer revealed this information after answering a question on his X (formerly Twitter) personal . The original question inquired about the position of “game planner” in the original Mega Man game. Kitamura revealed that planner is what we nowadays would call a game director. The developer added that nowadays, a producer’s duty is to manage the project, while the director is the person put in charge of overseeing development.

As a reminder, classic Mega Man T-shirts will appear on July 13, 2024 among other Capcom franchises as part of a new And Chips (&CHIPS) apparel collection.

The original Mega Man came out on December 17, 1987 in North America for the NES and Japan for the Famicom (where it is known as Rockman,) December 13, 1989 in the UK and June 22, 1990 in the rest of Europe.

Capcom new apparel brand And Chips will include Mega Man T-shirt

Capcom has revealed a new apparel brand named And Chips (&CHIPS). The company will release apparel based on its game franchises with this new brand. Capcom has opened the brand's official website, which is also available in English.

The brand will consist of multiple collections. The first one to come out will be the 83 Collection, which has a focus on Capcom's retro games.

The lineup will include a Mega Man-branded T-shirt with Western-style artwork inspired by the first game and a Rockman-branded shirt that features the original key art of Mega Man 4. A Street Fighter II T-shirt will complete the initial lineup.

Capcom has also been working with other companies like Amazon to release apparel for its games. However, this new brand will allow the company to work with individual designers. Capcom Town Website

To celebrate its 40th anniversary, Capcom revealed a special website called Capcom Town. This is an interactive space celebrating some of Capcom’s biggest franchises. The Capcom site contains polls, a museum, retro game emulation and merchandise. It also links to portals for franchises including Street Fighter, Resident Evil, and Monster Hunter.

There is a lot of love shown for Capcom franchises across this site. The home page presents a cityscape full of Capcom characters while music from games including Street Fighter II, Ghosts n Goblins, and Devil May Cry plays. In the museum, you can look through concept art, game design documents, and early promotional material. The site's polls are on a rotation schedule, with the current poll on June 12, 2023 asking visitors to choose between the Hadoken and Shoryuken as Street Fighter's most iconic move. There is also a small retro game library, allowing visitors to play five Capcom games in their browser. These include Mega Man, Mega Man 2, Street Fighter II, Final Fight, and Mega Man X.

Capcom Town looks set to be updated over time, as some sections of the site are currently unavailable. It’s likely that more entries will be added to the museum and retro game library too.

It comes right before the Capcom Showcase 2023, to be held on June 12, 2023, as part of Summer Game Fest.
