Cucuruz Doan’s Island Ticket Sales Reach $2.2 Million in Two Days

Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan’s Island, the latest film adaptation of the franchise, has grossed approximately $2.29 million in ticket sales in its first two days. The film debuted in Japanese theaters on June 3, 2022. Since its release, over 150,000 people have reportedly visited the cinema to see the movie.

The movie is a film adaptation of an episode from the original 1979 anime series. The episode, Cucuruz Doan’s Island, is infamous among fans for its poor animation quality and notoriously bad storyline. Gundam series animator and director Yoshikazu Yasuhiko later revealed that the episode was September 2021.

According to the film’s Twitter , Cucuruz Doan’s Island sales reached approximately ¥300 million, or approximately $2.29 million, in its first two days. The film is currently showing in 184 theaters across Japan. Moreover, director Yoshikazu Yasuhiko and many of the film’s cast have been appearing at live stage greeting events. Yasuhiko has even commented that their “next target is Top Gun: Maverick,” another popular newly-released film.

In addition to Cucuruz Doan’s Island, Sunrise plans to air a new anime series titled teaser trailer also gave fans a glimpse at the series’ protagonist and the new Gundam Aerial.

Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan’s Island is in Japanese theaters. There is no word on an international release.
