FFVII Rebirth Concept Art Shows Cait Sith and Red XIII as Frogs

Square Enix shared new concept art on the official Final Fantasy VII Remake social media , and this time it showed the effect of the Toad status on Cait Sith and Red XIII and their unique forms as frogs in FFVII Rebirth. As is common, both amphibians feature traits and accessories inspired by the characters.

In the case of Cait Sith, it features a black and white color scheme like the tuxedo cat. It also wears a crown and red cape, just like the character. The comment noted it almost ended up being two frogs, to represent how the character rides a Moogle. The Red XIII frog is red with accents that mimic his markings, and it features two feathers behind its eyes. It also has a scar over the right eye.

Here are the two pieces of FFVII Rebirth concept art of Cait Sith and Red XIII as frogs after being afflicted by a Toad spell or Frog Song.

This isn’t the first time Square Enix shared concept art of the frog status effect in FFVII Remake and Rebirth, as the characters’ frogs resemble them when the Toad form is in effect. Back in 2022, around the first game in the trilogy’s launch, we got a better look at the Aerith, Cloud, Tifa, and Barret designs.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is available for the PS4, PS5, and PC, and FFVII Rebirth is on the PS5 and PC. There’s no release window for the third entry in this remake trilogy yet. FFVII Remake will also come to the Switch 2.

Tamagotchi Plaza Switch 2 Version Adds Extra Shops

Bandai Namco announced exactly what is different between the Switch and Switch 2 versions of the new Tamagotchi Plaza game coming out later this month. It turns out the one for the new console includes three shops the other doesn’t. This is because all three involve minigames that use the Joy-Con mouse only present on the latest system. There will also be an upgrade pack that adds those three shops to the Switch version if someone eventually gets the new console

There are three shops, though one of them is a hybrid of the first two. In the Sushi Shop, you will hold the Joy-Con in mouse mode and press buttons to create the sushi your customers request. The Shuriken Shop involves getting throwing stars and hitting targets with them. However, to throw them you hold the Joy-Con in mouse mode with the sensors pointed up, then swipe your hand across the top after aiming. The Sushi Shuriken Shop combines the two elements, as you make requested sushi, then flip the Joy-Con ever to toss it like a shuriken at the person who wanted it.

Here’s the Tamagotchi Plaza Switch 2 trailer showing the gameplay for those three shops. There is also a picture-in-picture video that shows the Joy-Con controls for each one’s minigame.

Tamagotchi Plaza will come to the Switch and Switch 2 on June 27, 2025, and the Switch 2 version will feature more shops. Both versions work with the Tamagotchi Uni virtual pet, which is available worldwide.

Fantasy Life i Switch 2 Version Arrives Ahead of Camera Update

Level-5 released the Switch 2 version of Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time, and at the same time confirmed camera adjustments based on player are on the way. There’s a new trailer showing the gameplay changes for the latest release, as well as some screenshots showing the changes to the view after players requested changes.

Ahead of the Switch 2 debut of Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time, Level-5 shared brief videos highlighting the frame rate and graphics updates. This latest video offers a more extensive look at gameplay. It began by showing peeks at how the graphics are improved in this version. Then, it offers examples of the frame rate updates when fighting, gathering, and crafting. The loading times come up after that to show how quickly it is to transition between time periods.

As for the camera changes in Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time, there will be better angles and greater visibility. The two images shared by Level-5 seem to be taken from Ginormosia. In each, the field of vision is far longer. The patch adding them will show up on all platforms in mid-June 2025.

Samantha Kelly Doesn’t Voice Peach and Toad in Mario Kart World

Samantha Kelly took to her official SamanthaKellyPeach Instagram to confirm that she is no longer the voice of Princess Peach or Toad as of Mario Kart World. In the social media post, she noted that Nintendo told her new actors replaced her on June 5, 2025, launch day for both the game and Switch 2 console. [Thanks, DaKardii on Reddit!]

Here’s a screenshot of voice actress Samantha Kelly announcing she no longer plays Peach or Toad in Super Mario games starting with Mario Kart World. Her full statement on the was, “Thank you for so many years of friendship and joy. I’m sad that it’s over, I truly would have wanted to voice Peach and Toad forever. Nintendo let me know yesterday that they decided to recast these roles. I’m grateful that I got to do these voices for so many years. Peach and Toad are such strong and beautiful characters that I pray they live forever no matter who voices them. So much love.”

She is one of three voice actresses known to play Princess Peach and Toad in the Super Mario series. Jen Taylor was the first person to take on the roles. She started work on the games in 1999, with the first entry she worked on being Mario Golf for the N64. Nicole Mills played Princess Peach in some Mario & Luigi and Super Mario Strikers titles. Kelly ended up portroying both since Mario Strikers Charged for the Wii in 2007.

Monolith Soft Worked on Mario Kart World Character Designs

Last evening, ahead of the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 worldwide, the Monolith Soft official social media stated the studio worked on Mario Kart World. This often happens following the launch of a Nintendo first-party title. The credits or the company itself will confirm involvement. In this case, the developer worked on Mario Kart World “field and character designs.”

Here’s the official announcement, which included the box art for the game. It didn’t mention which characters or locations in Mario Kart World that Monolith Soft helped design.

https://twitter.com/MONOLITHSOFT/status/1930459571275084157

While Monolith Soft is known for making its own original games, such as the Baten Kaitos, Project x Zone, Xenoblade Chronicles, and Xenosaga series, it is well known for acting as a studio for games like Mario Kart World as well. For example, it assisted with Animal Crossing: New Horizons and both The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. It’s also worked on Dirge of Cerberus: FFVII. This marks the first Switch 2 game it worked on.

However, it isn’t the only time it ended up being involved with the console. Alongside the new system’s launch, Nintendo confirmed a Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Switch 2 update on June 3, 2025. The goal of it was to specifically ensure it would run better on the new console.

Shine Post Be Your Idol live performance singing voices use AI

Konami was revealed to have developed an AI voice library for the Japanese Nintendo Switch 2 launch title Shine Post: Be Your Idol. The game's director, Akihiro Ishihara, revealed its details in interviews with Famitsu.

In an earlier interview in April 2025, Ishihara divulged how his team made a dedicated deep-learning AI library for the singing voices to accommodate all 23 playable idols in occupying any position in each featured song. The AI can also adjust the idols' singing qualities, such as pitches and vibrato, based on their in-game growth stats. Konami opted to adopt the technology since recording live singing voices in multiple qualities for all idols would take an enormous amount of time.

In a more recent interview on the game and console's launch day, Ishihara revealed how the team recorded the voices for the AI to learn from them. The voice actresses were told to sing any song they liked from the list and enjoy it like a karaoke session.

However, Ishihara also acknowledged in the interviews that the usage of AI in the game could generate some concerns and negative reactions from the public. He tried to assuage by noting that Konami had previously released the LAUGH DiAMOND AI singer voice libraries, and Shine Post also has the same technologies as the former.

Shine Post: Be Your Idol is one of the Japan-exclusive launch titles for Nintendo Switch 2, which releases worldwide on June 5, 2025.

Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster Teasers Show Agnes and Edea

Ahead of the debut of Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster, Square Enix shared looks into the past lives of Agnes Oblige and Edea Lee. Each one highlights what they were doing just ahead of the events of the game, which debuts on the Switch 2 on June 5, 2025. It also offers glimpses at other people we see throughout the game.

The first image involved a peek at Agnes before she headed out on her mission for the Crystal Orthodoxy in Bravely Default. She’s the Wind Vestal devoted to that elemental crystal. As shown in her prequel art and story, she’s working alongside another nun from the Temple of Wind to teach people in Ancheim about the importance of crystals.

The Bravely Default second image showed Edea Lee at the Duchy of Eternia back when she fought alongside the Sky Knights. This is before we meet and up with her in the game following her mission to intercept Agnes. In the background we can see her father Braev Lee, Grand Marshall of the Council of Six, watching as she walks alongside Alternis Dim, another member of the order.

Here’s how both images look. Each one features a brief story segment below it.

As a reminder, this is one of multiple JRPGs that are part of the Switch 2 launch window, with all of them being familiar faces.

Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster will come to the Switch 2 on June 5, 2025, and the original game appeared on the 3DS.

Best Switch 2 Launch Window JRPGs to Play

The Switch 2 launch is a pretty good one for fans of JRPGs. Aside from being largely compatible with many of the Switch games we already own, meaning we get access to a large selection of existing titles, the launch library also contains six JRPGs so far. I mean, it could be more. We do have Summer Game Fest 2025 this month, and that could mean shadowdrops. To help you keep up, here’s all six of the JRPGs we know will be on the system as of June 4, 2025. (And I’ll be sure to keep it updated throughout the first few months of its “life.”)

Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster x21

Out of the entire Switch 2 lineup, Bravely Default HD Remaster is likely the first one you’ll think of when the JRPG genre comes to mind. This is because it is the most traditional new game that fits that formula. A remastered version of the classic 3DS game, it’s a turn-based adventure that is honestly very Final Fantasy due to its use of crystals and reliance on jobs for abilities. (It’s basically a successor to the DS game Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light.) Anyone playing it for the first time can look forward to a really interesting story!

Deltarune  4v1y51

Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4launch alongside the Switch 2, giving us the next part in the series to play when the new console debuts. Its turn-based battle system is very much like a JRPG. This means we can almost nearly complete the game, what with Chapter 5 being the final part. Even better is that you can test this out without paying first, as Chapters 1 and 2 are available for free.

Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time 3e313x

Level-5 only announced Fantasy Life i would be a Switch 2 launch title at basically the last minute. But don’t take that as an indicator of the quality! This is an amazing game in which you take part in action-RPG battles and build up Lives (jobs) tied to combat, crafting, and gathering. The Switch 2 upgrade purchase gets you higher frame rates and better graphics. Go through three different time periods, build yourself up, do lots of crafting, and figure out what’s going on with a mystery that goes all the way back into the past as well as the present.

Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army 6q5n5o

Atlus has us covered for the Switch 2 launch with the return of a classic action-RPG from its Shin Megami Tensei JRPG library. Raidou Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army is back just after the new console’s debut. We follow Raidou Kuzunoha XIV during the Taisho era as he solves the supernatural disappearance of a young woman with demons by his side. There are lots of quality of life adjustments in this release too!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGq8brkpwwo&ab_channel=NintendoofAmerica

Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma a463k

While there’s a little light platforming that can be an issue, Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma is actually a fantastic JRPG for the Switch 2. It isn’t as heavy on the farming as past installments, instead prioritizing fighting your way through different regions as you explore, help build up villages, and form relationships with different characters. This is all set against a storyline about awakening gods and saving a region from disaster. There’s even a $10 Switch 2 upgrade for it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4m7YHLlDq40&ab_channel=NintendoofAmerica

While Suikoden I & II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars did initially debut earlier in 2025, the compilation is also part of the Switch 2 launch window. This gives you the HD versions of two of the best JRPGs from the PlayStation era. It could easily keep you busy for 80 hours. It ran well on the original Switch, so it should be just as fantastic on the Switch 2 too.

Steam DB Reported Hollow Knight Silksong PC Data Changes

There could be Hollow Knight: Silksong news soon, data regarding the PC version of the game changed on the Steam DB website. Two pages shows adjustments appeared on June 3, 2025, with a ChangeNumber adjustment and two depot additions. The actual product page on the storefront appears unchanged. [Thanks, CommodoreKong on Resetera!]

This is a substantial amount of action on the Steam DB pages that track Steam backend changes and updates for the PC version of Hollow Knight: Silksong. The one listing featured Changelist #29337185, Changelist #29337189, and Changelist #29337309. That involved it shifting from ChangeNumber 24965705 to 29337185, then 29337185 to 29337189, and finally that to 29337309. The depots 1030301, 1030302, and 1030303 also all appeared. The second only featured a ChangeNumber alteration from 22736671 to 29339689.

There’d been quite a gap since there were any changes to the Steam files. One noted the ChangeNumber went from 22736671 to 24965705 back in August 2024. That was 10 months ago. The second listing hadn’t changed since March 2024, as the ChangeNumber went from 5782401 to 22736671. That was 15 months ago.

We do know the game is on the way soon. It will be a part of a museum exhibit at ACMI Game Worlds in September 2025. It also apparently has a 2025 release window following multiple delays.

Hollow Knight: Silksong will come to the Switch, Switch 2, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC via Steam in 2025, and it will be featured at the ACMI in Melbourne, Australia, between September 18, 2025 and February 8, 2026.

street fighter 6 luke manga rising

A manga version of Street Fighter 6 focusing on Luke, aptly named Street Fighter: Luke Rising, will start serialization from June 29, 2025 in CoroCoro Comic. Yoshio Mokomokomaru Masao will draw the manga.

In the announcement Tweet from the official CoroCoro Comic X (formerly Twitter) , we can see the artist’s take on Luke and Ryu. There is also a rougher page of Luke posing, with other characters behind him in smaller s. Yoshio Mokomokomaru Masao previously worked on Gaming Ojou-sama, as well as contributed multiple one-shot comics, which you can read on the Shonen Jump website.

This collaboration between Capcom and CoroCoro is to commemorate the second anniversary of Street Fighter 6. The game came out in early June 2023 for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC. The arcade version of the game came out in December of the same year. Luke is the poster boy of Street Fighter 6, and he debuted in the series as a DLC character for V. He was also a major character in Street Fighter 6’s story, which is likely why he’s headlining a new manga series.

The Street Fighter: Luke Rising manga will start serialization from the June 29, 2025 issue of CoroCoro Comic. Street Fighter 6 is readily available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC. It is also in arcades. The Nintendo Switch 2 version will come out on June 5, 2025.

Nintendo Claims Switch 2 Wholesale Price Article Is False

At the beginning of June 2025, Bloomberg shared an article suggesting some information on the wholesale price of the Switch 2 in Japan and gross profit margin, and Nintendo later took to social media to refute it. It stated the information in the article was incorrect and untrue. However, it didn’t offer any clarification, as the notice also stated, “Nintendo does not disclose any information regarding business conditions with distribution and retail partners.”

According to the Bloomberg report, unnamed sources claimed retailers would make 5% instead of 2%. This would mean the stores selling the Switch 2 would make more profit on the Nintendo console due to wholesale price option. In Japan, two models are going to be available. One is a variant that is only in Japanese and sold in Japan for 49,980円 (~$350), and the other is a multi-language option that costs 69,980円 (~$490) that is identical to the one being sold worldwide. The article claimed the move would potentially make selling the system more attractive, since that sort of would make more money.

Here is the full statement from Nintendo regarding that report:

Also, worldwide there is a bundle option that includes both the system and a copy of Mario Kart World for $499. That means you get the game for less than usual, as outside that bundle it costs $79.99.
